True, u could create a schematic symbole for a hole correct way to do it in my opinion but if the footrpint of that holes specifies it as a NPTH u could indeed end up connecting something to a none click hole without getting an compile or DRC error in Altium.

The major advantage of drawing the cut-out in layer 20 (Dimension) is that polygon fills (eg. power and gnd layers) will respect the cut-out. If you place them in Layer 46 (Milling) the copper layers will flood fill all the way to the board edge and you risk a short circuit if there is any traces of copper left after milling.

I decided to precut the perimeter of my board by putting milled slots around the shape of it.

The outline that you declare will be cut with an end mill of smaller diameter than the distance between opposite ends of the shape you wish to remove, and will be cut to the line, i.
For very small slots for instance, that will not be the case, and an end mill of the same size as the distance between opposite ends of the shape would be used - and may not be possible or will be more expensive.
There are zillions of different ways to hold boards in a panel.
Different PCB manufacturers can offer different things.
The favorites for the ones I use are scoring and what we call "rats teeth" where you leave a few little bits between millings like you are suggesting and then drill holes in them to make them easy to cut.
It may well be that you just need to describe what you want and only supply the gerber for the finished board, how to make slots in altium the supplier to sort out the panel.
If you are only making small numbers then why not get them made to size - often cheaper and easier.
You only need to define the panel yourself when you are making large numbers and need to optimize panel sizes for your machines.

Drill slots are used when you want to drill straight slots in the board.

Use First, ensure that the layer you wish to place a drill slot on, is the active layer.

After clicking OK, you will enter slot placement mode.

Slots, milling and rout-outs have to be indicated clearly to be processed correctly in production. Do not indicate them in your cupper layers or textprint layers Do not indicate them by putting text outside your layout Do not indicate them by adding a textfile or any other document together with your datafiles.

I want to make a mounting hole of 2.
Place a pad on the PCB, set hole size to 2.
Clearly that can not include routing and cutouts.
How do I make a larger hole then?
Create a PCB library footprint for the hole also from a pad.

But now the mounting holes are still technically a pad.
Which is incorrect and can lead to errors and confusion with future designers.
I just referred to eagle because there it is done in a way that is easy to share to keep a consistent type of mounting pad over all designs in the company.
My standard approach: The schematic component has basically no data, and if you use Assembly Variants, they should be tagged as Learn more here Fitted if you'd ever fit anything, e.
This is good to avoid inconsistency between SCH and PCB, especially if electrical connection is needed and hey, more grounding the better, as far as I'm concerned.

Well, if make money on games unplated, you'd presumably leave the pin off the schematic symbol.
You can actually connect unplated pads.
For instance, you can have the pads on top and bottom, but no barrel.
Or whatever shape on each layer, since they can be specified separately.
Of course, if the pads are smaller than the hole, so that there's no way to connect them.

True, u could create a schematic symbole for a hole correct way to do it in my opinion but if the footrpint of that holes specifies it as a NPTH u could indeed end up connecting something to a none plated hole without getting an compile or DRC error in Altium.
Ofcourse it's common sense not to do this but still.

Hi I need a little help about one thing that I have been thinking around for a while.
I decided to precut the perimeter of my board by putting milled slots around the shape of it.
Do I have to compensate for the end mill diameter to get the outside dimensions right?

The outline that you declare will be cut with an end mill of smaller diameter than the distance between opposite ends of the shape you wish to remove, and will be cut to the line, i.
For very small slots for instance, that will not be the case, and an end mill of the same size as the distance between opposite ends of the shape would be used - and may not be possible or will be more expensive.
There are zillions of different ways to hold boards in a panel.
Different PCB manufacturers can offer different things.
The favorites for the ones I use are scoring and what we call "rats teeth" where you leave a few little bits between millings like you are suggesting and then drill holes in them to make them easy to cut.
If you are only making small numbers then why not get them made to size - often cheaper and easier.
You only need to define the panel yourself when you are making large numbers and need to optimize panel sizes for your machines.
But it seems that the visualization show the cut to be the size of the line and centered around it.
Does the manufacturers do the same or they keep the center of the line drawn on mechanical 1 as the outside perimeter?
The people I use just want a zero width outline and they sort where the cutter goes but they spec.
Other board makers may be different.

MacroFab looks for cut outs and slots in the .BOR or border gerber file. In the EDA Tool Eagle this is generated from the Dimension layer 20. Other EDA Tools will call this the PCB border. If you are uploading an ODB++ package you will have to make sure the cut outs are drawn on with your border tool.
